DESCRIPTION:
Bhishma Ashtami is marked on the eighth day of Shukla Paksha during the month of Magha. It marks the day Bhishma of Mahabharata, (Ganga Putr Bhism), died.
Fasting and various rituals are performed on this day to safeguard the soul of Bhishma.
